What is Independent Drawing Review?

JLS Architects offers independent reviews of construction documents to help reduce the risk of Change Orders and other unforeseen costs.​ Poorly coordinated or incomplete construction drawings often lead to costly project disruptions, and errors discovered in the field are significantly more expensive to correct than those identified during the documentation phase. Our Independent Drawing Review (IDR) service enhances coordination and accuracy, resulting in more reliable construction pricing and reduced project costs. With a cost of less than 1% of the construction budget, IDR provides an average savings of 3-6% in overall construction costs.

How It Works:

  1. Send Us Your Documents
    Send us the drawings or documents you want us to review. Drawings should be at a fixed stage of development (i.e. issued-for-permit or 90% CDs).
     

  2. Get a Quote
    We'll provide a formal quote prior to beginning work.

     

  3. We Review the Documents
    Our experienced team will break down your documents into 18 common categories and review the documents for completeness, constructability, and potential code concerns.

     

  4. You Receive Our Mark-Ups
    We provide comments and recommendations for items that typically result in field coordination issues or that may have been overlooked by the Design Team.

     

  5. Your Design Team Makes Edits
    Your Design Team incorporates our comments into the drawings.

Did you know?

  • A study performed by the Construction Industry Institute (CII) found that the correction of design Errors and Omissions impacted the cost of construction an average of 3%.

  • The AIA suggests that a typical project can produce up to 7% of the contract's value of change orders.
